La LlevantinaA right-to-use housing cooperative, made with calm and with heart
We are a group of people who dream of a place to live, with the people we choose and in the way we choose. A space in the La Llàntia neighbourhood of Mataró where we can grow, share and grow old with dignity, looking for an innovative solution and helping to pave the way towards a more humane way of living and sharing in community, for everyone.
We are neighbours who believe the housing problem has to be tackled with a new way of living in community: the right-to-use model
La Llevantina is a group of 11 people who met around a question: what if we could live another way? Since then we have walked hand in hand, with excitement and with patience, to make real a project rooted in the La Llàntia neighbourhood. Through our own effort we will show that this new housing model is entirely viable for our society, and that it makes sense as a way to fight speculation.
We are not doing it alone. Alongside us are La Dinamo, CoopMaresme and Bloc Cooperatiu, companions who opened the way for us and support us with everything they know.
A home that belongs to everyone and to no one at once
We chose the right-to-use model because we believe housing is a right, not a commodity. The cooperative will own the building and those of us who live there will hold the right to use it, with no mortgages weighing us down and no rent rising every year. That right is set by the land lease, normally 75 years plus any renewal.
Imagine an alternative to speculation: a building on Carrer Llevantina, in the heart of La Llàntia. Space for everyday life and for coming together, made by everyone and for everyone. Our aim is to be the first in Mataró to back an alternative we know for certain works; you only have to look at the successes in Barcelona, with La Borda and La Morada as a reference, or at the projects already going up in Argentona and Arenys de Mar.

Life together
Shared spaces: a communal kitchen for when someone wants to throw a party, a courtyard, guest rooms, corners to meet in, a shared laundry, a barbecue... because living well also means sharing. Community is what matters most in right-to-use housing.

Energy, water, materials: we choose consciously, to leave the world a little better.

How we got here

We met
La Dinamo, CoopMaresme and Bloc Cooperatiu opened the door to another way of living.

People committed to making a change
We said: 'Yes, we want to try this.' And so the group was born.

We visited fellow housing cooperatives
We went to La Borda and La Morada, and came back with our hearts full of ideas and hope.
- 2025
We found a place
The plot on Carrer Llevantina appeared, and we knew it could be our home.

Growing together
We took our biggest step this year: the cooperative is constituted, we are now formally a housing cooperative! We keep drawing up the project and we open our arms to anyone who wants to join this adventure.

We believe everyone deserves a decent, stable and affordable roof, with no fear of ending up on the street.

We want to know our neighbours, share meals, look after one another the way people used to.

We care for our surroundings the way you care for your own home, because it is everyone's home.

Deep roots
Mataró is our home and La Llàntia is the neighbourhood. We want to be pioneers and become the first right-to-use building in Mataró.
And what about Mataró?
La Llevantina wants to be an embrace for the neighbourhood and for Mataró. We bring a housing model where what counts is not who has the most, but who shares. We free land from speculation and give it back to the people who live on it.
We smile thinking that, one day, other projects like ours could be born next door. Because a fair city is built together.
